Professorial Staff - Academic Studies; Jazz History

Job offer:

Integral to the Faculty of Music are the learning opportunities provided by the Academic Studies Department, who deliver core academic and vocational learning across all programmes of study within the Faculty. The team of Academic Studies teaching staff – many of whom also contribute to instrumental/vocal/composition teaching within the Faculty – each exemplify the multi-faceted skillset of modern musicians and thus provide important exemplars for students.

The Faculty of Music seeks to appoint a suitably qualified candidate on a fixed term, hourly paid basis from 1 September 2018 to 31 July 2019. The successful candidate will have expertise in the field of jazz history and will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of jazz music history/context at undergraduate level, in addition, contributing and enhancing the Faculty’s developing research culture.

With established research strengths in composition and music technology, musicology, music psychology, and the performance of music (particularly contemporary music) – our strategic priority are the development of a practice-led research hub with specialisms in creative practice/performance, performance science and performance pedagogy as well as text-based research in our disciplines; the further integration of our research and knowledge exchange/public engagement programmes; and increasing our research collaborations, seeking particularly to engage international partners. The Faculty of Music is committed to encouraging research-informed teaching; you will be encouraged to develop your skills in line with this ethos.

Educated to a postgraduate degree level, you will have proven higher music education teaching experience, strong research interests, outstanding communication and organisational abilities, excellent IT skills and the capability to deal with a busy and varied workload, within a highly creative environment.
