From Public and Private Subsidies to Earned Income and In-Kind Donations
Most countries provide public subsidies for small and medium-sized cultural projects, though this will depend on your geographic location in Europe. Public support for business may include grants, loans, technical support and advice.
In addition to national support, regional, local organisations or private foundations and sponsors can often help you get started. In-kind donations (space, specific services such as printing) can also be sought.
Examples : France, Britain
Finally, your own earned income, be it through ticket sales, rentals (of material, for example) and merchandising of auxiliary products can prove important, and will often be evaluated by potential public and private sources of support.
The European Union provides funding for small start-ups via grants, loans, and in some cases, guarantees: http://ec.europa.eu/small-business/finance/index_en.htm
