The concluding conference of the Polifonia Project working group dedicated to “Lifelong learning in Music: Educating for Entrepreneurship” will provide an opportunity for students, teachers, conservatoire directors, and music professionals from across Europe to come together to learn about, reflect upon, and  imagine the extensive possibilities offered by the many facets of musical entrepreneurship.

The “state of play” – a comprehensive reporting back on the working group’s activities and results – followed by two responses from respected professionals - will constitute our point of departure. Break-out sessions will offer opportunities to scan the entrepreneurial mindset within participants’ conservatoires and organizations; “Making it happen” will address everything from creating an artistic vision to realizing a business plan. A preliminary boot camp – our creative incubator – will allow 15 young musicians to develop their project with seasoned professionals, and to then present the results at the conference. The conference keynote will address entrepreneurship as a way of creating community and, in closing, we will explore the new beginnings these encounters suggest – be it for culture professionals, working musicians, or conservatoire teachers and leaders…

STUDENT BOOT CAMP

18-19 September 2014, Royal Conservatory The Hague

In advance of the European Association of Conservatoire's ‘Polifonia’ Project concluding conference onThe Musician as Creative Entrepreneur, a European boot camp is being organized to support emerging professional musicians in moving from an initial idea for a new initiative or business in the creative industries to making it happen.

During the course of this workshop, participants will develop a business canvas addressing core dimensions of entrepreneurship relevant to realizing the idea, such as connecting artistic ideas to customer insights and needs, articulating a pitch, scoping and planning resources, creating a network, building teams, marketing, finance and fund-raising. By the end of the session, you should be ready to pitch the idea persuasively and have an outline plan for implementation.

Participants will then have the opportunity to make their “pitch” to attendees of “The Musician as Creative Entrepreneur” conference being held on September 19-20.

APPLICATION

Should you like to apply to the boot  camp, please outline on one page of A4 what your business idea is and who will be involved, its potential market/audience, and some indication of your planned timescale. In addition, please send a short CV (100 words or less).

Applications will be selected on the basis of:
  • the strength of concept and underlying artistic quality;
  • business readiness and viability;
  • investment potential;
